Therapy approach

At Magnolia Counselling, my approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based practice. I believe therapy works best when you feel safe, heard, and respected, not judged or rushed. I work alongside you to understand what has brought you to counselling, the patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and the strengths you already have that can support change.

I am an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with extensive experience in mental health, including perinatal and parenting support. My work is informed by a trauma‑aware, attachment‑focused lens, recognising how past experiences, relationships, and life transitions shape how we think, feel, and respond today.

I draw on a range of focussed psychological strategies, tailoring therapy to your individual needs rather than taking a one‑size‑fits‑all approach. These may include:

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): to explore unhelpful thought patterns and develop practical strategies to manage anxiety, low mood, and stress.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): to support emotional regulation, values‑based living, and greater psychological flexibility.

Emotion‑focused and attachment‑informed approaches: particularly helpful for relationship challenges, parenting concerns, and perinatal mental health.

Strengths‑based and solution‑focused strategies: to build on what is already working and create achievable, meaningful change.

I have a particular interest in supporting individuals through the perinatal period, parenting transitions, identity changes, and the emotional load that often accompanies caring roles. I also support clients experiencing anxiety, burnout, relationship stress, and difficulties adjusting to life changes.

Therapy with me is practical as well as reflective. Sessions may involve skill‑building, gentle challenge, and between‑session strategies, always paced in a way that feels manageable for you. My aim is to help you feel more grounded, confident, and equipped to navigate both current challenges and future stressors.
